A World History of Art in 50 Works: Spain
Shamelessly ‘borrowing’ the idea from Neil MacGregor’s ‘A History of the World in 100 Objects’ from the British Museum, Community Classroom presents the fifth series in ‘A World History of Art in 50 Works.’ Divided into regions, this 5 week course will move on from the fourth series’ focus on Central & South America to look at 5 key works of art from Spain. In this series we travel to Spain. We will discover the Moorish conquest and subsequent influence on architecture, delve into a world of saints and martyrs, royalty and influence on the international stage and how images of war and civilian suffering still have an impact on us today.  

No prior knowledge is required, just a passion for art and history!

 

This course is led by Mrs Katie Lintott-Gillman, Head of History of Art at Surbiton High School. She studied at Warwick University; the Palazzo Pesaro Papafava, Venice; and the Courtauld Institute. Her particular interests include the Venetian Renaissance & the Spanish Golden Age; she also has an obsession with Masterchef.

Week 4: Francisco Goya, The Third May, 1808 (1814)
Week 5: Pablo Picasso, Guernica (1937)
