100th Birthday Party for Surbiton High’s Oldest Alumni
Surbiton High School welcomed back their oldest known alumni, Betty Griggs, to celebrate her 100th Birthday. Amongst the attendees were some members of the Green & Silver Club (the alumni association of Surbiton High) and members of Friendship Hour (a club for local elderly residents to interact with Senior School pupils once a week to share experiences and contribute to ongoing school projects).

The afternoon started with an introduction by Silas Edmonds, Head of Senior School, with a summary of Betty’s long association with the School, followed by Fourtissimo (the Senior School Acapella choir) performing a small repertoire from their collection. The afternoon ended with afternoon tea and a rousing “Happy Birthday” to accompany the special cake.

Betty was not only a former pupil in the late 1920s, but also a former parent and former member of staff as she came into School on Friday afternoons to teach Domestic Science. Betty has lived locally all her life and continues to attend The Rotary Club in Kingston.
